![]() ![]() ![]() We see about half a dozen more distinct children in that 9-12 age bracket in the HTTYD comic book “Dangers of the Deep” alone. There are a lot of Berk children animated in the DreamWorks Dragons universe, and if you try to count the children in, say, the ages 9-12 bracket in Gift of the Night Fury, I believe there are at least ten distinct kids that age. In a population that has three hundred adults, it seems very unlikely that only six teenagers would exist. This means there could well be three hundred adult Vikings in the screencap. You will notice, from the red and blue dots (signifying people I did count) that I still had left about half the circumference of the Kill Ring up front, let alone all the crowd amassing before Stoick and the stage. I could count about 183 distinct heads, but after that, could not see enough to keep counting. The following screencap from the first film has even more people than that. There are 156 adult Vikings in the following screencap from Gift of the Night Fury: Therefore, to try to make some rough estimates myself, I found screencaps of adults congregating in mass and did headcounts. This means perhaps the best way to count the population size would be to figure out how many houses there are on Berk, but I thought that would be too hard to do. At least, I do not remember any mention of it in The Art of How to Train Your Dragon, THe Art of How to Train Your Dragon 2, or any interviews by the art and animation departments. ![]() Now, unfortunately, we do not know the size of Berk’s population. Here is some indirect evidence for why I think might imply there should be more than six teenagers around the same ageĪ rough population estimate for the Isle of Berk and the Hairy Hooligan Tribe could help us understand whether or not it would be likely for there to be more teenagers on Berk. ![]() It’s hard to say exactly, but my guess would be there have to be a few more youths than just Hiccup, Astrid, Ruffnut, Tuffnut, Snotlout, and Fishlegs. ![]()
